The Lake Malawi Anglican University (LAMAU) Student Union has commended the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) for hosting an informative loans presentation on January 21, 2025, at the University’s Lilongwe Campus.
The session aimed to educate first-year students about the loan's application process, eligibility requirements, and the critical role the loans play in supporting financially needy students.
Speaking after the presentation, LAMAU Student Union President Deborah M’thawanji expressed gratitude to HESLGB for the initiative, describing it as a beacon of hope for students struggling to pay tuition fees.
“This is great news for us. There are students who cannot afford to pay school fees, and we are grateful to the Loans Board for this development. As Student Union President, I am particularly thankful for this initiative, which will enable needy students to pursue their education and fulfil their dreams,” said Mthawanji.
She further encouraged her fellow students to embrace responsibility by repaying their loans upon completing their studies to ensure others benefit from the same program.
Speaking during the presentation, HESLGB Communications Manager Millie Kasunda emphasized the importance of providing accurate information during the loan application process.
"Students need to ensure their national ID details match their school registration information. Any mismatch between these details can disqualify a student from accessing the loan. If you don’t have a national ID, please visit the National Registration Bureau to obtain one and ensure all information is accurate,” Kasunda advised.
The presentation underscored HESLGB’s commitment to fostering access to higher education through financial support while promoting accountability among beneficiaries.
